Wisconsin Department of Health Services

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) is a state agency responsible for overseeing the health and well-being of individuals and families in Wisconsin. It administers a wide range of programs, including Medicaid, BadgerCare, and other health-related benefits. DHS plays a key role in ensuring that the state’s residents have access to essential health services, and it supports initiatives that improve public health, manage healthcare delivery, and promote the welfare of vulnerable populations.

In addition to overseeing state-run health insurance programs, DHS also works on improving mental health services, long-term care, child welfare, public health, and substance abuse services. By coordinating across various healthcare programs, the department aims to enhance access to care, reduce health disparities, and promote better health outcomes for Wisconsin residents.

My experience

During my time as a Full Stack Developer, I had the privilege of working on a high-impact project for the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS), where we developed a robust system for providing and managing health benefits for individuals and families. The project focused on improving access to essential healthcare services by streamlining the process for enrolling in programs like Medicaid and BadgerCare. The system we created allowed DHS staff and service recipients to interact more effectively, ensuring a seamless experience in applying for and managing health benefits.

Leveraging my expertise in Salesforce Lightning Design System (SLDS), I was able to design and develop both custom and general modules, as well as responsive components that functioned flawlessly across mobile and desktop devices. This ensured that users could access their health benefits anytime, anywhere, providing an intuitive and seamless user experience.

In addition to my work with SLDS, I have extensive experience in pixel-perfect development, which ensures that every design element and UI component is implemented exactly as specified, offering a consistent and visually appealing experience. By using the Angular front-end framework, I was able to build scalable, dynamic applications that supported the complex needs of healthcare benefits management.

To ensure robust quality assurance, I implemented comprehensive unit testing using tools such as Jasmine and Karma, which allowed for efficient and automated testing of components throughout the development lifecycle. Additionally, I embraced continuous integration and development (CI/CD) practices using Docker and Jenkins, enabling rapid deployment and iterative improvements. This allowed us to push updates and enhancements in a controlled and efficient manner, ensuring that the system remained secure, stable, and up-to-date.

Overall, my experience with this project not only enhanced my technical skills but also gave me the satisfaction of contributing to an important initiative that improved the delivery of healthcare services to families and individuals in Wisconsin.
